Street Spirit, a monthly homeless-sold newspaper, carried many articles on the struggle against the Sleeping Ban 1995-2007 (and is still published, but usually with little from Santa Cruz). Below are some specific articles on two periods of struggle when a campground or encampment was formed to protest the ban and protect homeless people.
There are literally dozens of stories about Santa Cruz's struggle against the Sleeping Ban from 1996-2006 at http://www.huffsantacruz.org/StreetSpiritSantaCruz/ as well as other stories about local homeless issues and homeless civil rights struggles in other cities. Check them out.

You can also find earlier material in the reference section of the Santa Cruz library in two bound volumes of the Street Shit Sheet (1988-2007). (Garbled examples of the Street Shit Sheet can be found at http://www.huffsantacruz.org/ssarchives.html)

Current issues of Street Spirit, a monthly homeless newspaper, are carried at the main branch and sold by some homeless vendors. For more info call 423-4833

For some background on the City Hall Sleepers vigil (the 1996 vigil) and Camp Paradise (the 2001 homeless-run encampment), see the stories below:
